Ten District 202 high school students won top spots in two prestigious art competitions.
Students placed in The Scholastic Regional Art and Writing Awards and the Lewis University High School Art Invitational.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards allows 7th through 12th grade students nationwide to submit works of art or writing in multiple categories to win scholarships and have their work published or exhibited by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.
“Gold Key” works will now be considered for national-level recognition. National Medals will be awarded later this spring. The top entries at the national level will be displayed this spring and summer as part of the organization’s national tour.
The Scholastic Regional Art and Writing Awards winners include:
Plainfield East High School
• Angelyn Wong, senior, animation, Gold Key
• Sarah Martinez, senior, digital art, Silver Key
• Nicolas Loza-Ramirez, senior, and Mia Summlion (2024 graduate), digital art, Honorable Mention
Plainfield South High School
• Faith Pondelicek, senior, drawing and illustration, Gold Key
• Vanessa Valdes, junior, drawing and illustration, Honorable Mention
• Lilliann Moeller, junior, ceramics and glass, Honorable Mention
The Lewis University High School Art Invitational comprises artwork in various mediums including mixed media, sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, etching, and digital illustration.
