SAT Subject Test

Purpose:

The purpose of the SAT Subject Test is two-fold:

  • According to the College Board website, the SAT Subject Tests provide a path to opportunities, financial support and scholarships, in a way that’s fair to all students.

  • The SAT Subject Tests allow you to demonstrate your proficiency in a specific subject.

Who takes the SAT Subject Tests?

11th and 12th grade students.

Are SAT Subject Tests optional or required?

The SAT Subject Tests are optional; however, college-bound students may need to take them as an admission requirement for some colleges and universities.

What areas do the SAT Subject Tests cover?

Twenty (20) SAT Subject Tests are offered in 5 general areas, each test lasting one hour in length:

  • English
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Languages
  • Science

How do I register for the SAT Subject Tests?

Students must sign-up on the SAT website (www.collegeboard.org). Under very specific circumstances only, a student can register by mail (http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/how-to-register).

  • Student should check the College Board website to determine which SAT Subject Tests are available on the dates listed above, as all subjects are not offered on each test date.
  • The registration fee for an SAT Subject Test is $26 (basic fee) + $20 for each SAT Subject Test ($26 for Language with Listening tests in addition to the basic registration fee).
  • Students may register for a maximum of 3 SAT Subject Tests per test date.
  • Students must upload a photo as part of their online registration.

What do I do if I missed a SAT Subject Test?

Students can test on a future SAT test date by using their online account or calling College Board to request a new date. (https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/taking-the-test/test-day-mishaps
